Made In Situ - Openings and events

From New York to Lisbon, last summer was a busy one. Sharing our way of designing, thinking and presenting is key to our exhibition, calling upon all our senses through film, experience and multisensorial factors.

Made In Situ x Demisch Danant

After a first standalone Made in Situ exhibition in New York in the fall of 2022, Demisch Danant and Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance come together again for this showcase, bound by a shared admiration for narrative-driven design and material-forward conception.

On the occasion of the edition of Oui Design! as part of NYCxDESIGN, French designer, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance presented a selection of works from Made In Situ, from the collections‘Azulejos’, ‘Bronze & Beeswax’, and‘Chêne & Liège’

Lisbon "Caretos" exhibition

Made In Situ had the pleasure to unveil the latest chapter- ‘Caretos’ By delving into the rich heritage of northern Portugal, we invite viewers to immerse fully into the captivating realm of these cultural icons.

Seven handcrafted, ornamental stools, produced by artisans from Lazarim, are joined by photographs of Charles Fréger’s piercing series, “Wilder Mann”. These are all held together by a scenographic landscape built by Made in Situ, taking us on a journey where madness meets mystical.

Opening Caretos - Immersive street diner & live demonstration

On the occasion of Lisbon Design Week, Made In Situ took to the streets with the community of Lazarim. For the occasion we invited visitors for a stroll through the ‘Caretos’ exhibition followed by a street diner prepared by the woman of Lazarim who made two traditional Portuguese dishes cooked in typical pots, the mood was festive with strangers sharing tables.

The evening was also brought to life by artisan Tozé Vale, a craftsman from Vila Boa de Ousilhão who gave a live demonstration of how to make a wooden mask.

Talk with the photographer Charles Fréger

Recognizing the power of visual storytelling, for the latest exhibition and the first time at Made In Situ we invited photographer Charles Fréger to contribute evocative imagery to the exhibition. Fréger’s profound photographs offer viewers a glimpse into the raw energy and mysticism of the Caretos tradition.

On the 28 May we had the pleasure to have Charles Fréger talk about his work and his interaction with local communities all around the world. For the night, the gallery became a place for discussion and debate on cultural and social traditions, the way traditions are passed on and how they evolve with the modern world.

Lisbon By Design "Azulejos Landscape" exhibition

Made In Situ x Viúva Lamego

On the occasion of the Lisbon by Design, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance was invited by Viúva Lamego to produce new pieces to celebrate their 175 years.

We presented for the first time the 3rd addition to the ‘Azulejos’ collection – ‘Azulejos’ Landscape.

"This last Azulejos project comes after two other experiences with Viuva Lamego, Azulejos I and Azulejos II that I designed for my project Made in Situ.
The idea behind these projects is to refer to the ocean element, predominant in the narrative heritage of the azulejos, but shown with a different angle.
The materiality of the glazing and the roughness of the chamotted gres, were the perfect allies to express the movement of the sea against the mineral coast."
